Presented at Worth Gallery and curated by Jen Lee as part of CONTACT Photography Festival, this exhibition continues the gallery’s commitment to accessible, community-focused photography exhibitions.

As Toronto undergoes rapid redevelopment, shifting demographics, transit expansion, and evolving public spaces, this exhibition asks artists to document, question, and imagine the city at a moment of transformation.

Toronto’s Past, Present, Future invites artists to contribute to a collective photographic exploration of Toronto, including York, East York, North York, Etobicoke, Scarborough, the downtown core, and the many neighbourhoods that shape these communities.

The exhibition will consider the city through diverse perspectives: public spaces, transit systems, accessibility, natural and urban landscapes, architecture, and everyday life. From candid moments and fleeting interactions to ordinary objects and familiar places, the works to be presented will reflect personal narratives that speak to the evolving culture, identity, and character of a changing city.

Together, these images will form a living record of Toronto; how it has changed, what is shaping it today, and what we imagine it may become.

Artists and audiences will be invited to reflect on the city’s past and present while imagining its future.

Open Call Submission Guidelines

This is a juried photography show, so not all submissions will be accepted.

Submissions will be evaluated based on:

Theme relevance
Original artistic authorship
Exhibition fit and cohesion

Accepted artists will receive the exhibition fee, installation and delivery instructions upon notification.

Submission is free. Fees apply only to accepted works (see Fees section).

This is an in-person photography exhibition. We are looking for digital, analogue, and alternative photographic processes, including experimental film-based practices such as cyanotype and other process-based work. Phone photography is welcome, provided the images meet print-quality standards.

Each artist may submit up to 5 images for review. The gallery will select up to 3 works per artist.

Standard submission size is up to 20" on the longest side (including the frame). Larger works are permitted and subject to oversize fees.

Works must be original photographs created by the submitting artist. Archival work is welcome if it was produced or photographed by the artist. AI-generated images or work sourced from others will not be accepted.

This is a street photography-focused exhibition, though the definition remains open.

Natural or urban landscapes
Architecture
Everyday moments
Candid scenes
Documentary approaches
There is no requirement for a literal street setting—indoor, outdoor, urban, and rural contexts are all welcome.

How to submit

Name, email, phone number, and artist name
Up to 5 images (JPEG format) for review
- JPEG, sRGB, minimum 3000px on the long side, max 10MB per file
Title, year, dimensions, area of Toronto, and photographic process/ medium/capture method
Short artist statement (max 100 words)
An artist bio (max 100 words)
Social media or website (optional)
Selling price (if applicable)

Presentation requirements

All works must be hang-ready with proper hardware attached.
Works on paper must be framed or mounted
All pieces must hang from a single screw
Artists must provide any alternative hanging systems (hooks, tape, velcro, magnets, etc.) with clear instructions
Works not meeting installation requirements may be rejected

Fees

Submission is free. Fees apply only to accepted works.

$40 for the first accepted piece.
$10 for each additional accepted piece.

Oversize Fees

Over 20" (longest side, including the frame): +$10
Over 36" (longest side, including the frame): +$20

Sales

Works may be listed for sale in CAD. The gallery takes a 12% commission. Sales will be processed after the exhibition closes.

Rights & Permissions

By submitting, artists grant permission for accepted works to be used for exhibition promotion, social media, press materials, and documentation, with credit provided.

Logistics & Responsibility

Artists are responsible for printing, packaging, transportation, delivery and pickup of their work. The gallery does not accept shipped items.

While all reasonable care will be taken during installation and exhibition, the gallery is not responsible for loss or damage.
